Cambodia through the Illustrator

Writer's picture: Kanika BouKanika Bou

It's quite interesting for the digital drawing from one of Singaporean illustrators describing about Cambodia. I bought three of his artworks from one of the Japanese shops at Aeon mall. The description of each illustration is very well described of what is really happening in Cambodia to this very day.

The following are some of his artworks that I just keep in my collection:

It’s not how much you carry, but how well you balance

The law in Cambodia not only requires everyone riding a motorcycle to wear a helmet, but also limits the number of passengers to no more than adult and one child. But anything goes in Cambodia, and it is not unusual to see a motorcycle carrying the whole family and much more!

If you wish to move mountains, you must begin by moving stones

The ancient Khmer Empire was built on the back of the noble elephant. It was used extensively in wars, in religious processions and in the construction of the Empire’s many temples. More than 6,000 elephants were used to build Angkor Wat alone. Without the elephants to move the massive sandstones sourced from the Kulen Mountains, it would have been far more difficult to build the monuments that still impress visitors to this very day.

He who masters the river, helps others cross it

Cambodia is rapidly changing, but its rivers, like its traditional customs, are still of great importance. From providing the country with its single most important source of protein, to feeding its rice fields, to transporting people and goods, Cambodia’s rivers continue to carry the country’s past and present forward into the future.

At my very young age, I like drawing stuff animals and landscapes that I have visited. Part of my drawings are also the creativity that I added in to give my piece of drawing some more tastes in addition to the existing works that I have done.

Josh's works recalls my childhood memories and the good old days that I played around with friends and families. It brings me smile :)
